Holy moly we're halfway to the marathon! Yikes it was a hard week of running. And this was a step-back week... it was supposed to be "easy". Here's how it looked with Hal's training schedule in the pretty PINK and my actual run in the Wildcat PURPLE.
MONDAY: Rest Day / Rest Day. Still so tired from last week... and the lack of sleep throughout the weekend!
TUESDAY: 4 Miles / 4 Miles.
WEDNESDAY: 7 Miles / 7 Miles. I think this was more difficult than the 15 miler on Saturday!!! It didn't help that I slept for around 5 hours the night before.
THURSDAY: 4 Miles / 3 Mile Walk. I'm totally counting this as cross training... b/c there's not much else for me to count this week.
FRIDAY: Rest Day / 4 Miles.
SATURDAY: 11 Miles / Rest Day. I totally meant to go to the gym, but slept in instead. Oops!
SUNDAY: Cross Training / 11 torturous miles. We met at Drew's parents' house in Lenexa so they could watch Mr. Jack while Brooke and I ran. It was POURING down rain, which delayed our run by 2 hours. When we finally headed out I had to loop back around to the house after 3 miles because I was dizzy and light-headed. I ate a granola bar and had some water and we headed back out. Has anyone ever ran in Lenexa??? Holy hills! All 11 miles were just up, down, up, down. I was dying. Dying. When I got home I jumped in the shower while Drew went out and found me a chocolate chip muffin... so sweet! I was in the middle of eating my muffin and literally passed out from exhaustion. Drew had to wake me up and drag me off the couch to say goodbye (he's out of town again this week!). Yeah... it was a hard run.
Total Mileage: 26 / 26
***Marathon Training Tip of the Week: Go to bed!!! As the mileage increases, so does your need for sleep. Your muscles repair themselves while you are asleep. Its also really freakin' hard to get your mileage in when you are sleep deprived. I had a couple of nights last week that were less than 5 hours and I attribute the difficulty in running to the lack of sleep. I know I need at least 8 hours when I'm running this much. And with that said, I'm off to bed. Happy running to you!

Bluejays & Stroganoff
This week's cookbook comes all the way from Cimarron Kansas. Who doesn't love Western Kansas??? This book is special because I'm pretty sure it was the first in my collection. Back when Drew and I first started seeing each other he told me that his favorite meal is beef stroganoff. He came to visit that summer when I was living in Wichita and I decided to impress him with my culinary skills. I snagged this cookbook from my mom's house... and I just never gave it back.

This book was put together by Cimarron High School as a fundraiser I'm assuming and all the parents contributed recipes. It was a gift from my Aunt Jan to my mom in 1995. That explains why every recipe calls for margarine. I'm serious... I don't think butter is mentioned in there at all. I think butter was somewhat taboo in 1995. Now margarine is a bit taboo... funny how times change.

I made this recipe way back when and I remember it was really good (duh, its my aunt's recipe!) but I remember it took forever to make. So between then and now I've tried like a thousand different beef stroganoff recipes trying to find "the one". Nothing stuck.
Drew has been out of town for the last two weeks so I decided to make his favorite meal to welcome him home this weekend. I pulled out this recipe because I remember it being so good and I assumed it just took forever because I was a newbie in the kitchen and didn't really know what I was doing. I figured I could whip this up really quick... and didn't read past the ingredient list.

Umm... yeah. If you read up there it says to cook slowly for an hour and a half! BTW, who is curious about the Beef Roll-Up recipe?
It took a long time, but it was definitely worth it. This will definitely be our go-to recipe for beef stroganoff in the future. I swapped the margarine for a little bit of olive oil and used about half the sour cream. Drew doesn't like his stroganoff too "sour creamy".

I wasn't really feeling the beef so I just had mushroom stroganoff. Yummy! Egg noodles are like the best thing ever! Look how happy he is:

And we followed with ice cream!!! Yep, two nights in a row of ice cream. I got my PB fix this time with some Bunny Tracks. It did the trick!
More reasons I love this cookbook: Breakfast Pizza and Tamale Cheese Pie are included in the dessert section. Puppy chow appears 3 times throughout the Appetizers section; all the same recipe. There are two recipes for Velveeta Fudge (What?!?!). There is a recipe titled, "Norb's Favorite Meal" which says, "Nothing. Go out to eat." Hilarious.

F U DQ.
You know the commercial where the guy answers the door eating a Blizzard and the Girl Scout tells him he could cram more cookies in and his subconscience screams, "Get the Thin Mints!" Yeah, I laugh out loud every time. Then my subconscience screams at me, "Go to Dairy Queen!" I've been on this peanut butter kick lately and I've been dying to try the Peanut Butter Pattie Blizzard!
I was so excited when Drew asked me on a DQ date tonight. He's been gone for two weeks! And he's been dying to try the Brownie Batter Blizzard. Who does DQ advertising??? Its working. When we showed up at 9:15, DQ was closed!!! Sadness. Serious sadness. What's the next best thing? Sheridan's. Culver's was closer.

Drew was a little apprehensive but perked right up when he saw that Culver's has a Brownie Batter Concrete. This is him before he took his first bite:

I don't have an after photo, but it wasn't good. The "brownie" had the consistency of gum drops. They had a funny after-taste that totally ruined the icecream. Blech.
I didn't get my PB fix, but I did get a yummy Snickers concrete... that I had to share with Drew. We threw his out. Seriously, we threw away a full concrete. Who are we???
Drew will black list you without a second thought. We won't be going to Culver's anymore. Add that one to the list... along with Spangle's. He wasn't very happy with DQ either, but we're giving them another chance. This is why we never stray from Sheridan's! Mmm... Royal Turtle.
Who wants to go on a DQ date with me???
