I'm Mad!

It is 7:18 am and I should be just reaching the end of my second mile in the Olathe Marathon. But I'm not, I'm sitting here hungover, blogging. I'm mad! I'm stealing your new phrase Sam! I'm being bratty and pouty because I was fully preparing myself all day yesterday to run in a blizzard. And then the dang thing got cancelled! Not rescheduled... cancelled! And below is a view from my front porch. The weather channel says it is 34 degrees out. I'll tell you what, I trained in weather a lot colder than this!

So, I guess I ate a lot of carbs all week and drank all that water for nothing! I am glad they cancelled it when they did, because the one good thing that came out of it is I was able to go to our work shindig. This weekend is a big dental convention that we work every year and we always go out to Jack Stack (my fave!) on the Friday night of the convention. I wasn't planning on going since they don't really serve anything marathon-friendly and I'd be the only sober one at the table! After I got the news about the marathon I immediately headed down to meet a coworker for drinks while everyone else wrapped up with the dentists. I was definitely not the most sober one at the table! I have a really fun group of coworkers! Drew was a sweetheart and came to pick me up after dinner. Here I am, dog-piled with the dogs. Red wine always turns my cheeks bright pink!

So now I'm up, wishing I was running since the weather is nice... but also hungover enough that I'm probably just going to go back to bed and pout. I have no idea what to do now! Do I run the half marathon that was rescheduled to next week? Should I find another marathon in the near future? I'm so mad!

I Hate Car Trouble!

Blech. Double blech. There is nothing I hate more than car problems. I feel so helpless... and seriously anxious at the thought of having to deal with an auto shop. Jade, my beloved Jetta decided to kick the bucket at Starbucks yesterday... right when I was running late for a meeting.

Tom found a place near their business that works specifically on Volkswagons and was nice enough to lend us his car so that Drew and I could make it back to work. I was fully prepared for a large expense coming our way, but when Drew called with the estimate I was pretty much floored! Its going to be close to $2,000 to fix! Something about running on 3 cylinders when I have a 4 cylinder engine. I don't know what that means... but I do know its a lot of money!

Then, to add injury to insult, Drew told me that the guy mentioned that the car has been neglected over the years! What?!? Okay, I know my car is messy, and not in pristine condition... but I don't see what that has to do with cylinders! Blech.

Everyone seems to tell me to just get a new car, but I'm serious about driving this one to the end. I love my car! Plus, I'm so against having another car payment. I'm hoping that Jade will outlive Drew's car payment by a couple of years at least so that we are able to go payment free for as long as possible. But, just for fun... here's a pic of the car I would be looking at if we were looking. That's right, the next one is going to be some sort of earth-friendly, gas-sipping, hippie mobile. Isn't she cute! Don't tell Jade, she will be super jealous!

No more drama!

Desk drama, right? I'm sure if you've talked to Drew or I in the last 9 months you've heard about our desk drama. Who has desk drama? Seriously?

We got new windows back in September and had to take everything out of the office. The desk pretty much fell apart and went in the trash. Since then, we've been on the hunt for another one that we can both agree on. Doesn't sound hard, right? Well, apparently we each have very specific ideas of what we are looking for in office furniture and it is completely opposite of what the other is looking for. Big surprise. I was looking for something that would look nice, and he was looking for something functional. It didn't help that our office is tiny, requiring a right sized desk.

Desk shopping was AWFUL!!! We went everywhere you could possibly buy furniture in KC and ended up going home deskless... and usually not speaking to each other! We'd be so frustrated that we'd wait months before looking again. I kept saying that if we ever get divorced it will be over this dang desk.

So one night last week Drew found a desk on Overstock.Com and I agreed, mostly just to be done with all this drama! It showed up yesterday! WOO-HOO!!! Drew used his desk-building skills and put it together and now its in there!
Drew, being handy.

That's a lot of pieces! I'm so glad he didn't ask for my help.

I think the color looks nice with the new blue we put on the walls.

Mya gives her seal of approval. She claimed the office as her room awhile ago. Her opinion is very important!
