Well, That's a First.

In all my years of setting the kitchen on fire, I never had to actually call these guys:

PVFD
Have you ever actually called 911?  On purpose?  It is scary business.

Don't worry friends, I didn't actually set the house on fire.  I came home from yoga class this morning to hear a funny high-pitched beeping noise.  I let the dogs out and then went in search of this silly noise.  After some digging through piles of junk in the guest room I found out that we have a carbon monoxide alarm.  And that alarm was beeping loudly and flashing, "SEEK FRESH AIR."

I spent the next 10 minutes standing outside on the deck with frantically calling everyone I know.  The puppies were visibly annoyed at having to stand in the snow, but I explained to them that the alternative was to slowly slip into unconsciousness and that if their father would answer his phone the first time and not wait to see if I call back three times, then maybe we could move off the deck a bit sooner.

The dogs and I jumped in the car, heater full blast, and called 911; per Drew's instructions.  I must say, the Prairie Village Fire Department didn't waste any time getting there.  I joined them in the house while the puppies watched from the car.

"Um, hello?  We are very cold out here."
I walked three firemen and a carbon monoxide detector through our house, checking all of the rooms, and paying lots of attention to the gas stove, furnace, and hot-water-heater.  They made me stand in the garage while they ran the heater and checked the vents because they didn't want me exposed.  Poor little me.

One of the firemen came out into the garage to debrief me.  There was lots of carbon monoxide but they couldn't find the source.  As he started listing the people I need to call and the things I need to check, his eyes started wondering to the ceiling... more specifically to the opening to the attic.  It was half-way open.

"Did you heat up your car in the garage this morning?"

Shit.  No way this is my fault, right?

Wrong.  This was completely my fault.  Apparently when I was warming up my car this morning*, the exhaust went up into the attic and then was recirculated through our house by the heater.  Awesome.

The fireman had me sign something before they left.   They had me open up all the windows and turn the heat on full blast to air out the house.  Then they told me it was probably a good idea not to hang around the house today.  Um, yeah.  I'm probably not going to hang out here with all the windows open on the coldest f-ing day of the year.

I grabbed some cookies, puppies, and booked it to Katy's.  Since she wasn't answering her phone or the door... I had to break in.  Thank goodness I had cookies because I totally woke Kate & Kait up.

Good morning sunshine.
Thanks to my forward thinking (in a panic I grabbed the carbon monoxide detector and stuffed it into my purse) we were able to test Katy's house and determine that it is carbon monoxide free.

Portable detector.
Unfortunately, the puppies don't get along great with Katy's cat, Oscar.  So they had to sit in the car while we drank coffee, ate cookies, and watched Glee.

"What the hell is going on today?"
So, please take my advice and get a carbon monoxide detector!!!  Although I didn't really know we had one, I am eternally grateful that we do.  So please do me a favor and make sure that your smoke alarms are in order, and if you don't have a carbon monoxide detector, please go buy one.  Katy just ordered one on Amazon for only $19.99!  That's a small price to pay for the safety of your loved ones (and puppies!).

*I didn't mean to leave the car running for so long this morning!  I had to move Drew's car, so I started mine in the garage with the door open and went to move his.  Then I ran his car into a huge snow drift, got it stuck, and had to dig it out.  This took a long time and looking back I surely should have taken this as a sign of things to come.

I Am Not a Skinny Runner

Trophy Wife recently did a fun post about blogging... and listed some fun facts that her "Stats" bar gives her.  This got me thinking... I love my stats bar.  It tells you all kinds of fun stuff; such as:
  • The most commonly searched words that lead people to my blog are: "skinny runner", "skinny runner blog", and "how to be a skinny runner".
  • My most viewed page is a post that I did last Spring entitled, "Skinny Runner Wannabe" where Brooke and I were acting like big dorks, taking pictures of ourselves and trying to be just like our favorite blogger.
  • The most clicked on link on my blog is to the blog Skinny Runner.
All of these wonderful facts from the stat bar lead me to make the following conclusions:
  • Google is seriously doing wrong by some folks by sending them this way.  I can only imagine the disappointment when someone clicks on my link expecting to read all about a fast, skinny gal, and instead they get to read about a pear-shaped, slowish, dog-obsessed* gal.
  • The majority of my readership is here by mistake.  More people are coming here in search of tips on being a skinny runner than are actually interested in pictures of Drew eating meatless on Mondays, Ari's shenanigans, or my most recent attempts at burning down the kitchen.
  • The rest of you who do come here on purpose are probably only using me as a way to get to the real Skinny Runner website.
In light of these findings, I'd like to clear up a few things:
  • If you are here by mistake because you Googled "Skinny Runner" or something similar, I won't be offended if you leave immediately.  There's nothing here for you.  My baking offsets my running, resulting in "skinny" being next to impossible.  But if your interests extend to crazy dog ladies, ex-sorority girls who drink too much, or incredibly boring couples who eat too much ice cream; then please stick around!
  • If you are here on purpose, but just to get to the link to click to Skinny Runner's blog, I'm not mad at you.  It's my favorite blog too.  If I had only enough time to read one blog post in my incredibly busy day (ha) I'd choose her over me too.  So go on, click away.
  • I feel compelled to share more tips on being skinny, since that's obviously what you're here for.  How about this:  Don't listen to a word I say.  That's a good start.
Good stuff.  Stuff that we would never know were it not for the Blogger Stats bar.  So... thanks Blogger, for keeping me honest and not deluding me into thinking I'm super popular or something crazy like that.

*Okay, so there are some similarities.

SAG Awards; Glee Style

Again, I'm probably a bit late on this... but again, I don't actually watch the awards shows.  I just wait to see Fashion Police the next night so I can see what everyone is wearing.  And my Glee girls looked awesome... again.

Let's start with my fave: Brittany AKA Heather Morris.  She's wearing Ramona Keveza... which I've obviously never heard of.  Regardless, she looks phenomenal.  I cannot believe how gorgeous she is.  I don't know what else to say about it.

Work it girl.

Dianna Agron did a completely different look than she did at the Golden Globes, and I loved this one just as much.  She's in vintage Chanel, and while I'm not super crazy about that length, I get that its vintage... so its supposed to look a bit different.  Waist up; perfect.  I love her hair and makeup!

Haute.
Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta.  I don't know anything about designers, but I do know that I love Oscar de la Renta.  And I love Lea.  This is so different than the beautiful ball gowns I love her in, but it is equally as awesome.

Girl looks good.
Amber Riley looks AMAZING!!!  Her dress is actually a wedding dress that she had re-styled for the red carpet.  The Fashion Police named her "Best Dressed" of the night and I think I might have to agree.

Love!!!
Didn't I say last time that Jenna Ushkowitz always looks like she's headed to the prom?  This Badgley Mischka dress is really pretty, but it totally looks like a prom dress.  I just think she could do so much better.  The hair, jewelry, and makeup are all wrong... in my super professional opinion.

Alright, you all know I love love love Jayma Mays.  But I have been so disappointed in her red carpet looks!  And, is it just me or does her head look really really really big in this photo???

No bueno.
Alright, I don't expect Jane Lynch to be a fashionista, but I really think she's been making some strange choices.  I just wish she would do something age-appropriate and a bit more elegant.  Maybe a black satin track suit?  With rhinestones?  No?  Whatev...

Horror.

And... because we all like a bit of eye candy... Chord Overstreet:

I wanna be a billionaire... so freakin' bad.
Yea Glee!  Glee kids, hooray!  I'm just so happy to see them on the red carpet... and I can't wait to see them this weekend after the Super Bowl!!!

Red Carpet Extra Credit:  My bid for biggest psycho on the red carpet?  Winona Ryder ---> WITHOUT A DOUBT!  Girlfriend wore a dress from the Alberta Ferretti wedding collection.  I know I just said Amber Riley looked amazing in her dress, which was technically a wedding dress, but she had it restyled.  Winona just showed up in a wedding dress.  Girlfriend looked like a damn crazy woman.

Crazy Sauce.
Let me hear it!  Who was on your best and worst list from this year's SAG Awards?!
